Many of you grew up with pets. Some people come from homes where having a pencil pet portrait above the mantel was a definite sign of just whom was in charge of the house. Others had to beg and plead and all but sell their very souls just to convince mom and dad that a pet was a good idea. You know the routine: ‘I promise I’ll take care of it. I’ll feed it and let it out, clean the litter box, take it for walks, play with it, and cleanup all its messes forever and ever amen…’
There are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners
A pet is only as well behaved as its owner trains it to be. Seldom is a pet born bad. Spoil a pet and they will behave like a spoiled child. Be mean to a pet and eventually they may rebel. Love your pet, care for them, and be only as stern as you absolutely need to be, and they will respect and love you unconditionally, forever.
Pets that aid you
We all know that to some of the physically-challenged individuals such as the blind or the handicapped, having a pet can really aid the operation of your day to day activities. There are pets that can also improve your mental health by simply being a loyal companion next to these individuals.
Truth be told, having a pet is a great idea for kids
As long as mom and dad enforce the rules with both the kids and the pets, everything should be beautiful in its own way. A child can learn many things from the whole pet experience. What more people need to understand and remember is that domesticated animals are virtually helpless. They depend on the kindness and care of others if they are to survive.
Buying a pet, even an adopted one, costs money. If a child contributes at least some of the money it will take in order to buy the pet initially, they are more likely to want to take better care of their investment. Having a pet is a responsibility that can be a family affair, but the majority of the care should definitely come from the child that begged for a pet in the first place.
Through a pet, a child will learn love. Love a pet, truly love them and care for them, and you will receive unconditional love in return. Particularly for an only child, there is no companion like a loyal pet.
